I've been without my splint for ten days now. At first, I had no problems being without it. But now, I'm clenching AND grinding at night and breathing with my mouth open a lot more. I'm not too happy about any of these things. I'm worried about damage to my teeth. I've already had significant gum damage from clenching, and that was even with having a night guard. A fellow blogger (thanks, Tina!) sent me a link for a night guard that can be worn while you have braces. I'll be checking into this for sure with my OD.
I've also noticed a lot more joint tension and muscles tension in my face, particularly in my cheek area and near my ears. I haven't had a major migraine yet, so I'm happy about that. My jaw is totally confused about where to go without the splint to guide it. I find myself "posturing" a lot, and not being able to find really any comfortable position. I expect I won't have that until after the surgery. Here's hoping!
