Definition.

What is an orthodontist?

1. A dentist specialized in persuasion and keen eyesight.  Able to measure nanometers of movement with the naked eye and convince patient that things are MOVING ALONG, even though patient has seen no sign of movement in months.
2. A dentist trained in using torture devices with great precision and skill, convincing patient that pain and metal will make it all better.

This is my attempt at describing the frustration I feel over the fact that despite two wire changes in a period of sixteen weeks and feeling a pressure that would indicate that something maybe is happening, I have seen no movement of my bottom teeth in that same amount of time.  Maybe it's because my teeth were already fairly straight (although I can still see that they are crooked down there).  Or maybe they are just stubborn.  Either way, I have seen no change, but my OD claims that I have great torque on the molars.  Must be something hidden under the gums that only he can see, because I swear, they're exactly in the same place they were two months ago...

  1. That is so funny and so sad! It must be very frustrating when someone tells you "Oh yes, I definitely see movement!" When you have notice zero.
