Day 1.

I'll post more in-depth when I am home.  Here is a pic for now.  Blood is from nosebleed, not from my mouth!  I am wired shut.  Will be for six weeks.  I also have a splint.  Currently hooked up to IV fluids, so haven't attempted "eating" yet...

Soooo happy to be on this side of things tho!

  1. Oh Ellie, wired shut?! Did you know that was going to happen or was it something the surgeon only decided during surgery? I'm sorry to hear that! In case you weren't prepared for it, I know there's a great jaw surgery liquid diet recipe book on jawsurgeryblog.com.

I'm glad you're on the other side lady! Woohoo!! It's all downhill from here!

  2. Ellie, Welcome to the flip side! You made it through the worst of it. The next few days are going to be all kinds of miserable...no lie. But be patient, I promise it ends.

  6. Thank you everyone!

@ Tara: I did know that there was a possibility that I would be wired shut, but he ultimately made the decision during surgery (it was up in the air whether I would have BSSO or IVRO; he made the decision to go IVRO during surgery, which requires wiring because there are no plates holding the bones together, because my mandible had auto-rotated forward enough). So I did stock up ahead of time for a full liquid diet, just in case.
